How To Refill Your Pit Liquor Bottles

How To Refill Your Pit Liquor Bottles

We know how much you love Pit Liquor, so why not get your fave on repeat? Purchasing a Refill of your favorite scent allows you to fill up your 50ml bottle SEVEN TIMES.

Even better—your Refill bottle doesn’t just save you time and money, it saves the planet. Last year Pit Liquor sold over 2,000 Refill bottles, saving 10.3 tons of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere. That’s a reason to celebrate.

How to Open Your Refill Bottle

Our reFILL bottles are available for all Pit Liquor scents, including our current Limited Edition offering. Each glass bottle comes with a wax-dipped seal. To begin, vigorously shake your refill bottle to ensure it's well-mixed. Then locate the tab on the side of the bottle neck. Pull the tab, using either your hands or a pair of pliers. Remove the entire tab-band that circles the bottle, then pull the wax off the bottle's lid. Depending on the type of bottle you have, pull out the T-top or unscrew the lid. Grab a funnel and your empty bottle, and you're ready to replenish your Pit Liquor.

Refill Spray Bottles

To refill your Pit Liquor spray bottle, unscrew the black plastic spray cap. Using a small funnel, pour from your Refill into the bottle. Prevent leaking by filling to the base of the bottle's neck. Then replace the spray cap, screwing tightly.

Refill Roll-on Bottles

Refilling roller bottles can seem a bit tricky. Rather than worrying about the roller ball itself, remove the entire housing (see the video above). Then grab a funnel and pour your Refill into the bottle. Like our spray bottles, only fill to the base of the bottle's neck to prevent leaking. Replace the roller fitting, snapping it tightly, and you're ready to quench your stench again!

WTF is wrong with my Pit Liquor?! 5 Common Pit Liquor Questions Answered

WTF is wrong with my Pit Liquor?! 5 Common Pit Liquor Questions Answered

Occasionally we hear from customers who are concerned there might be something wrong with their bottle of Pit Liquor. 99.99% of the time, the answer is “nothing is wrong!” Our small-batch, handmade process means that our product isn’t as “perfect” as one made in a tube or can in a factory—our all-natural ingredients produce slight variations at times. We’re perfectly imperfect and we're proud of it. But we understand you may have some questions, so here's a dive into our five most common WTF?? questions:

1. Why is there sediment at the bottom of my bottle?

That sediment is a star player in our deodorant's stink-fighting power. A blend of arrowroot, sea salt, and teas, the white-ish powder packs a powerful punch to the bacteria in your pits. To make the most of this, be sure you always shake your bottle before applying Pit Liquor.

2. What are those greenish bubbles in my Whiskey Vanilla products?

People often assume those green bubbles are mold, but fear not! The real vanilla oil fueling that sweet vanilla scent forms into little bubbles inside your bottle. As it takes a bath with our proprietary blend of teas, the oil changes color. So really, greenish bubbles mean a great blend of stink-fighting, vanilla-scented magic.

3. Why is my bottle darker/lighter than my last bottle?

Our master blenders combine the perfect mix of overproof alcohol, essential oils, and our tea/arrowroot blend to each batch before bottling. Different batches of ingredients can lead to slightly different shades in the finished product. But never fear, the powerful Pit Liquor you love is the same in every bottle. The color has nothing to do with the stench-quenching power.

4. Why does this bottle look different than my last one?

Maybe your label was a little crooked, or the fill-line isn’t quite in the same spot as last time? In a world of mechanized factories, we subconsciously expect every bottle to look exactly the same. At our warehouse, Pit Liquor’s small but mighty team fills each bottle by hand and applies every label before sending it off to you. That means there may be subtle differences in each label or fill-line, but we like to think of this as our own stamp of authenticity. No machines means real jobs, real people, and a kickass natural deodorant made right here in the US of A.

5. What’s that fuzz in my roller bottle?!

You’ve used your roller bottle for a few months, and rolling it on is the best part of your day. But all of a sudden you notice a fuzz ball in the bottom of your bottle. Don’t worry - it’s not mold, it’s simply lint or other stray particles that the roller ball has pulled into your bottle. Even if it looks like a little twister, it doesn’t affect the strength of your Pit Liquor, and won’t harm you. Promise.

Pit Liquor's Top 3 Sellers —The List May Surprise You

Pit Liquor's Top 3 Sellers —The List May Surprise You

Choosing a scent can be hard. So many choices and for now, at least, you can't smell through your phone or desktop. If you asked us what the best scent was you'd get a looong answer. We love them all like we love our children. (Pssst, ok, Whiskey Black Pepper is super dope.)

But don't listen to us, the sales data doesn't lie. If you're looking for a new favorite scent check out our top sellers from 2021 starting with...

3. Whiskey Vanilla

Coming in at number three, Whiskey Vanilla’s warm and inviting scent is a crowd pleaser. Imagine sipping whiskey while eating your favorite cookie- that’s the warmth of whiskey vanilla. It’s whiskey base kicks odor where it counts while giving you cozy vibes of vanilla.

At Pit Liquor we pride ourselves on real ingredients and local suppliers, our whiskey is made just a few miles from our warehouse by Feisty Spirits. Self-described as "Purveyors of unique grain-to-glass whiskeys and other fine spirits," Feisty takes their whiskey-making seriously, using non-traditional grains to make unique whiskeys that they serve in their taproom. They proudly hold the title of "Fort Collins' first distillery" - you've gotta love the synergy because we are Fort Collins' first deodorant maker.

Our ingredients are so real that they just might surprise you. The vanilla essential oil in our bottles turns green when mixed with our proprietary blend of teas, creating little green bubbles of scent and odor-fighting goodness. And even better, you can find real vanilla beans in the bottle - no fake fragrances or chemicals here.

Whiskey Vanilla may sound like a tame fragrance, but this beast kicks stink and is a favorite of everyone from hard-core whiskey drinkers, outdoorsmen, bakers, mechanics, moms, and more.

Fun fact: Even though our Whiskey Vanilla ranks number three in overall sales, we actually sell more 100ml bottles of Vanilla than our second place winner. Looks like Vanilla is gunning for that silver medal.  You can give it a try (and boost it’s score to second place!) in 100ml, 50ml, roll-on, and Refill.

2. Whiskey Lavender

Finally, a real lavender scent that isn’t from your grandma's potpourri basket. After searching high and low for the best lavender, our founders discovered English Lavender, rather than the commonly used French Lavender. It has a subtle earthy and floral scent that’s not overpowering.

Gender neutral at it’s finest, you can share this spray-on with everyone you know, minus the germs or funk. Lavender can even work as an antiseptic, so keep a bottle in your car or medicine cabinet for when you’re in a pinch. Best of all, lavender has been shown to visibly reduce stress levels. We can all use a little stress-reduction, so spray your pits, take a big whiff of that lavender, and breathe easy.

As you might have expected, our lavender is locally grown (by the folks at Busy Bee Farms) and harvested by the Pit Liquor team each summer (you can watch our team in action here). Stay stink free year round and bask in the glow of a sunny lavender field. Our silver-medalist is available in 100ml, 50ml, roll-on, Refill, and as part of our Best-Sellers bundle.

1. Coconut Rum with Lime

Despite selling a whole lotta whiskey-based products, our biggest seller is actually Coconut Rum with Lime. Who doesn’t want to channel their best summer vacay these days?

Sharp lime, lush coconut, and a shot of rum make this deodorant feel like a tropical vacation in the midst of your daily grind. Since its debut in 2019, we’ve sold thousands of bottles of Coconut Rum with Lime. Our intern said that’s enough deodorant to fill several bath tubs, so excuse us while we literally bathe in our favorite tropical smell.

One of the reasons our Coconut Lime deodorant is so popular is because many find it to be the most effective scent for them. Why, you ask? Lime essential oil is very acidic, and this acid takes stench-quenching power to a whole new level. And don’t forget about the coconuts! We use coconut alcohol that’s actually made from fermented coconuts. Drunk coconuts give the best scent and keep your pits fresh and bacteria-free.

This powerful + effective deodorant will keep you stink free no matter how much fun you’re having in the sun. Find it now in 100ml, 50ml, roll-on, Refill, and as part of our Best-Sellers bundle.

Whatever your favorite scent, you can be confident in Pit Liquor's stench-quenching alcohol base and truly natural scent ingredients. Now that's a match worth spraying on your pits!

And We Thought Aluminum was Bad...

And We Thought Aluminum was Bad...

Can your deodorant really cause cancer? New research says the answer is yes. CNN recently announced a recall of several major deodorant brands, including Old Spice and Secret, that were found to have benzene in their spray deodorant products. According to the Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization, “Benzene is a well-established cause of cancer in humans.”

What is Benzene?

“Benzene is a chemical that is a colorless or light yellow liquid at room temperature. It has a sweet odor and is highly flammable,” writings the CDC. The benzene molecule ,C6H6, is produced from carbon or petroleum, and is often used to create plastics, gasoline, and drugs. It is also used to create napalm. What??

Benzene is so toxic to the body that the CDC recommends to “Quickly take off clothing that may have benzene on it. Any clothing that has to be pulled over the head should be cut off the body instead of pulled over the head.” Sounds like a chemical emergency if you ask us.

What makes benzene so alarming? The CDC tells us that “the major effect of benzene from long-term exposure is on the blood. (Long-term exposure means exposure of a year or more.) Benzene causes harmful effects on the bone marrow and can cause a decrease in red blood cells, leading to anemia. It can also cause excessive bleeding and can affect the immune system, increasing the chance for infection.” According to the WHO, “Benzene is a well-established cause of cancer in humans. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified benzene as carcinogenic to humans. [It] causes acute myeloid leukemia (acute non-lymphocytic leukemia), and there is limited evidence that benzene may also cause acute and chronic lymphocytic leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma.” Yikes. Clearly, this chemical packs a nasty punch.

Deodorant Problems

So back to your armpits and benzene. Armpits are a particularly sensitive area of the body because they sit close to lymph nodes. We’re going to give you the benefit of the doubt here and assume that like many adults, you have likely been applying deodorant to your armpits for years. As the CDC noted, long-term benzene exposure is considered one year or more. The average 30 year old has perhaps 15 years of deodorant application under their pits, meaning year after year of benzene in your body if you’ve been using one of these offenders.

The Pit Liquor Difference

[Cue the superhero music.] Pit Liquor natural deodorant is made from organic and non-toxic  ingredients so safe, you could actually eat them. We take your health seriously, and prioritize ingredients that are super-effective and super-good for your body. Ingredients like over-proof whiskey and vodka that kill the bacteria in your pits, ending the party before it can even start. And a blend of teas, arrowroot powder, and sea salt keep the freshness going for up to 48 hours. A finishing touch of essential oils and herbs adds scent without any chemical fragrance.

If you’ve read this far, you’re likely ready to try chemical-free products or already on the natural deodorant bandwagon. We bet you know a few people who still need to make the switch to benzene-free products too. We’re here to help you and your friends ditch the chemicals and switch to the best natural deodorant on the market, dare we say in the world. Share this article with that friend and you can both use code NOBENZENE15 for 15% off your purchase.
